Is This The Next Big Thing In Internet Advertising?
Remember a couple of years ago when Alex Tew's dollar-per-pixel advertising page raised over a million dollars in just a few months? This started a new revolution in advertising. You could visit a Pixel Website, choose your Pixels - which were usually sold in 10 x 10 blocks, pay for them, then simply upload your own graphic to the Pixel space you paid for. Thousands of websites started this trend. Then over time, the craze started to wind down in popularity. Now there are tons of websites that have nearly empty Pixel Grids or the ones that are full look cluttered with ads. Nobody seems to be interested anymore (unless it's FREE).
Charles Arruda of Pixel Picture Builder decided to give Pixel Advertising new life by using a different approach.
"I noticed that the Pixel Grids on most websites were a cluttered mess with graphics of all sizes and shapes," Charles said. "Also, nothing is categorized. I think this tends to turn off viewers and they move on." he adds.
Charles uses a Pixel Grid that contains 16 categories, each with a background B/W picture related to that category. When you buy pixels in 10 x 10 blocks, that space is replaced with a colorized portion of the same picture. When a user hovers their mouse cursor over this colorized area, the ad is displayed with a floating popup.
"It's kind of like Image Mapping with a twist," Charles says. "The visitor is looking at an uncluttered grid and it's very intriguing and fun for the visitor to find out who's advertising in the colored portions."
When asked if this could be the next 'million dollar' pixel page, Charles responds, "Well, that would be nice, but I just want to offer a new form of effective advertising that nobody on the net is doing, and make it fun for the visitor."
