Multiple Births - The Preparation Ahead
Babies are lovely but not too many of them in one go. Considering that multiple births are becoming more common, it is better to be prepared to handle your children when they arrive into this world.
Fertility treatments have resulted in multiple births fast becoming common. The mechanism behind these treatments is such that at times more than one sperm inseminates a single egg. Although, in usual cases, the result is the formation of one zygote that eventually becomes a fetus, in certain cases this method also results in the formation of several zygotes. Once the zygote starts developing into fetuses, the doctors can easily identify that the pregnancy is going to be abnormal.
At times mothers carrying the multiples face very difficult situations of having to take a decision of aborting one or more zygotes in order to ensure the survival of the others. It happens in very rare cases that the multiples are carried to term, with the chances decreasing with a higher number of babies. In such cases the mother is often asked to abort a specific number of zygotes to make sure that the rest of the babies are healthy. Though the decision of abortion is a difficult one, it should be looked in the perspective that it is meant for the best interest of the children.
If you happen to face this situation and have to take this difficult decision, try and speak with a number of doctors, your clergy and other individuals that have experienced your situation. However, once you have made up your mind stand firm on it. It's entirely up to you whether you opt to have the procedure or to take the risk. There is no reason to feel guilty or compelled to go in for the procedure by your doctor or not.
Since the mothers are required to go to bed once the babies are developing, it is advisable to resolve any of the necessary business before the mother is confined to bed. As the multiples are not often carried till the term, the doctors attempt to stop the labor as long as possible.
There are certain things that should be taken care of in advance like having a nursery. Apart from doing some shopping yourself, you can also ask any of your friends or family members for any pieces of furniture.
As a lot of energy of the mothers is expended at the time of the birth of the children, having the support of either friends or family members is a great idea. Running a household as well as taking care of the children all by herself can be quite a task for the mother. Thus having someone alongside proves to be of a great aid. Since it takes time for the things to settle, in case it is possible for the husband, he should take an off. Once everything has been settled and both the parents can resume working then arrangements should be made for proper childcare.
More babies translate not only into additional joy but it also means a greater task to handle. Therefore, it is better to do some careful planning in advance before your bundle of joy comes into the world.
