Coffee - Perk Up !

You open your eyes in the morning to an intoxicating smell that's teasing your nostrils ! You reach out for that elusive smell and your hand encounters your daily dose of caffeine... or your wake up cuppa of coffee. The word coffee is enough in itself to suggest that what a wonderful beverage it is ! It's a routine, a habit that is very difficult to get over or break. And why on heaven's name do we have to get over ? This is required...coffee is required to get the sense on high, to make the rest of the day feel wonderful, to give that bout of instant energy that is needed to step out of our homes or deal with an unreasonable boss or colleague.

So, what is this thing about coffee that keeps one and all addicted to it ? Mind you, there are coffee addicts who can down a number of cuppas a day and still hanker for more ! It's widely known that coffee is made by roasting coffee seeds of the coffee plant. A blackish liquid comes out which is then served either hot or cold. The word coffee entered our system way back from the Turkish word "kahveh" or the Arabic word "qahwah". The ultimate origin of the word, though is uncertain as there are several accounts present over it's origin. The popularity of this beverage is such that it is the second most traded product over the world and no morning at least is ever complete without a cup of coffee... whether it is a lazy breakfast or an early business meet.

"How do you like your coffee" ? A most commonly heard question... and yet it manages to tell us that this instant beverage is widely consumed in different ways. There are some who can't do without their black coffee... some prefer it to be an interesting or plain combination of milk and sugar and there are others who experiment with a variety of flavors ranging from vanilla to the more exotic like hazelnut, Irish creme or even bubblegum. Coffee has also been the first to be termed as "instant" which is also an indication of the amazing popularity it enjoys ! And then there was also the invention of the coffee maker which helped people (specially lazy ones like me) to enjoy a cup in the comfort of the home. But hey, there is a method to madness too ! Over consumption is actually like waving a red flag to your system. Too much is also not good... no matter how much you like it or love it. A never ending debate on the good and bad of coffee is forever on as researches say that a cup may reduce a number of ailments or may play havoc with the body too. It all depends on how you take it, as a moderate consumption of anything, even coffee does not have any adverse effect on the health.

Coffee sure plays an important role in today's society. From the coffee houses of the 16th century, to the present day cafes, it has managed to create an impact on the lifestyle of people from all walks of life. From meetings, to business discussions, to sorting family issues, from gossip to heartbreak... they have all been thrashed out over a magical steaming cup or an ice-cold one.

Some use coffee to create art, some use coffee simply as a beverage, some use it as their alarm, while there are others for whom, coffee is their best friend... whatever the use, whatever the flavor, whatever the season and whatever be the reason, there is no denying the fact that Coffee reigns supreme, a cup which manages to dictate our senses !
