Caramel Apples - A Sweet Treat On Halloween Night !

The taste of crunchy apples with a dash of caramel in every mouthful... enough to get all toffee lovers in heaven ! A very famous and popular treat during Halloween, caramel apples are big favorites with kids and adults alike. Every year around the Holidays and during the time of Halloween, we find big caramel apples on sale in department stores, but I bet they taste a lot better when they are made at home.

There were times when people used to hand out caramel apples to kids out for tricking and treating during Halloween. But with the change in taste and behavior pattern of both kids and holiday moods, they are no longer a top priority anymore. Store bought candies have upstaged caramel apples as favorites for Trick And Treat. But big, juicy apples with sticky caramel are still rule and we still love their uniqueness till date. The history of caramel apple is well known. They were first invented by Dan Walker, a sales representative in Krafts Food in 1950. The apples are coated with sticky and gooey caramel, making it also easy to add nutty crunchies such as peanuts, coconut, chocolate chips or anything else that your heart desires. Apples that are slightly tart and crisp, make a better combination against the sweet coating. They are a common treat, celebrated in most western countries and western culture, specially during the autumn festivals. Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night are usually the holidays topping the list as they come right after the annual apple harvest. Sometimes white chocolate is used over the caramel to hold the flavors of the varieties of nuts, candies and cookies. In some places, caramel apples are also called candy apples and taffy apples too.

As said earlier, homemade apples taste a whole lot better than store bought ones. It is very easy really to make caramel apples. You just have to be innovative enough if you really want them to look and taste different. Apart from holiday treats, these tasty sweets also make good gift packs for Halloween too. For Homemade ones, all you need is some good, juicy apples... preferably a bit tart and some melted caramel toffee and few Popsicle sticks. Just insert Popsicle sticks into the stem of clean, washed apples and dip them into melted caramel... and your apples are ready. For further decoration, candies and nuts can be used by rolling the apples in them, while still sticky and cooling the apples.

So, this Halloween get going for some fun with apples ! Just pick the big, juicy ones and give run to your imagination. You can do anything you feel like and come up with a whole lot of innovative ideas.
Just remember that whatever you make can be turned into a big success easily. Make sure that you have lot of willing helpers around who are ready to sweat as well as eat the tasty treats that you dish out for them. It's Halloween and just the perfect excuse to gorge yourself on caramel apples and to hand out some too for some little old fashioned fun... for some Tricking and Treating !
