Broadband Internet Phone
With VOIP you can avoid most of the costs that come with a traditional phone line. A VoIP telephone is the new way to talk. You make calls over your internet connection. Some Internet Telephony products, like CoolTalk and NetMeeting, come bundled with popular Web browsers. Others are stand-alone products.
Voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the new wave in phone technology and is not going away any time soon. The availability of broadband connection to the Internet makes VoIP service a viable alternative to traditional communication offerings. Any phone system made can take advantage of VoIP lines. You do not need an IP based (IP PBX) or even IP compatible phone system.
VoIP client is simply an audio device that performs the dialing, sampling and packet sending. VoIP offers customers many advantages, but there are also some disadvantages. VoIP is not very reliable. In general phone service via VOIP costs less than equivalent service from traditional sources.
VoIP providers may or may not offer directory assistance/white page listings. For homes and business considering connecting to broadband, VoIP is a way to offset the monthly connection cost. Is the Linksys CIT 200 Portable phone for the Skype VoIP service the only phone you'll need? It's an interesting and useful device, but the answer is more complicated.
Some providers allow you to transfer (port) your current phone number to the VoIP service. VOIP can be used for the Connection of Remote Workers or Remote Offices to provide Voice over IP Stations. VoIP is technically free. This is the biggest advantage to most companies. All you have to have is a high speed internet connection to use VOIP from anywhere.
