It would be astronomical if there were automatic reminders that updates are available so you don't need to manually check every now and then.
An additional area of consideration before you purchase a GPS product, is it's level of customizability. You do not want to get something that doesn't allow you to configure the settings and such to your likings. Normally a global positioning systems unit will not work 100 percent the way you would like for it to work for you, therefore configurations will be inevitable.
The ability to instantiate tweaks on the go is helpful as you may need to make changes to your course every now and then. Having a detour function is also a very beneficial component to the overall package.
